Basic Sewing Kit

All sewers need a basic sewing kit which consists of:

1. Needles - you can get loads of different types of them: tapestry needles, sewing needles, embroidery needles.

2. Thread - you can get normal cotton or (thicker) embroidery thread which is more like wool. I keep all mine in a small phone box.

3. Pins - the best ones to use are glass headed ones as they are much safer.

4. Tape measure - these are not as important but they are good for measuring when making clothes.

5. Fabric scissors - these are super important as if you try to use normal ones you will make a big mess of the fabric.

6. Stitch picker - these are essential if you stitch in the wrong place. You can easily get rid of stitches and start again.

In my sewing kit I keep all my needles in a needle book. They are super easy to make as all it is is some layers of fabric sewn together. My pins are in a pin cushion which are also easy to make and can be bought from loads of shops.

You will need a sewing box to keep your stuff in. There is a review on the one I made here.
